B&E

 B&E

B&E stands for Business and Enterprise. B&E is for making our own mini Businesses and selling them to other schools. This blog is to show what I did and how I felt about B&E.

  • The Business that I and my friend made was named Lolly-fizz. The business was selling a lollipop in a bag of sherbet.
  • The process of making the sherbet was super easy, but the packing took ages to do because we were tieing bows on the bags. We had to make labels and write the flavors on them so we knew which flavor was which.
  • My favorite part of making the product was making the sherbet and putting it the bags. The best part was the help that we got from friends to make the poster and labels.
  •  The hardest part was just tieing the bows and adding the labels. We didn't have the labels when we started tieing the bows, so we had to untie the bows and tie them again which took ages.
  • The day that we had to sell the product was super fun because we sold out at the first school.
  • Once someone brought our product we told them to have a good day and that we wished them a merry Christmas.

I would put a picture if I could find any but I can't.

Thank you for taking your time and reading my blog post.

How to Make Hokey Pokey

 How to Make Hokey Pokey

Aim:

I want to know how to make Hokey Pokey.

Research:

Once the baking soda is added it begins to foam up into a frothy consistency.

Method:

Equipment:

  • 5 Tbsp of Sugar
  • 2 Tbsp of golden syrup
  • 1 tsp of baking soda
  • Pot (Saucepan)
  • Tablespoon
  • Teaspoon
  • Popsicle Stick or Spoon
  • Stove (something to cook with)
  • Baking paper

Instructions:

  1. Take out Pot and put it on a solid surface
  2. Put 5 Tbsp of sugar into Pot
  3. Put 2 Tbsp of golden syrup into Pot with the sugar
  4. Put the pot with sugar and syrup onto Stove
  5. Mix the sugar and syrup mixture together
  6. Mix until turned into a liquid substance
  7. After turned into a liquid substance add 1 tsp baking soda
  8. Mix the baking soda, golden syrup, and sugar together until well combined bubbly
  9. Cut a good piece of baking paper for hokey poke mixture
  10. Pore the hokey poke mixture onto baking paper
  11. Let cool until dry and hard
  12. After dry and hard crack into bite-size pieces
  13. Eat and enjoy the hokey pokey you have made

Results:

This was a really fun experiment we did in science. I would put this more into the cooking class than science. It was somehow easy to clean the pot. It did still stick to the baking paper and was hard to get off because I didn't wait for it to cool down completely.

Term 3 Reflection

 Term 3 Reflection

Hola readers,

This is my term 3 reflection blog. This is one of those blog posts that tells you what I have done this term. I had some really fun classes this term.

What has been a Term 3 highlight for you?

Being able to make a toy car in wood tech would be my highlight because I was able to make it as different as I wanted it to be.

How did you find lockdown?

It was really fun because most of the time I would be doing archery in my backyard. Some of the time I would be playing an online game with my friends.

What have been your favorite subjects this term? Why? What have you been Learning/Making/Creating?

My fav subject this term is wood tech because we got to make toy cars and speakers.

What did you create in this term Arts Kete? Did you enjoy it? say why?

I and my team made a memory card game with Maori and English words. It was super fun when we were making them because we were just making each other laugh.

What are you looking forward to in the holidays?

Having time to use my Air rife and Bow & arrow in my backyard. Also playing some more online games with friends.

Thank you for reading my blog post

Chill Eating

 Chill Eating

Aim:

To find out how long it takes to reduce the spice after eating chili.

Research:

Equipment:

  • Hot sauce
  • Milk, Coke, and Water
  • Toothpick
  • Stopwatch

Instructions:

1. Get Equipment
2. Dip the toothpick in the hot sauce
3. Suck the hot sauce off the toothpick
4. Start timer
5. Stop timing when the burning reduces
6. write down the time that you get
7. put some more hot sauce on your tongue
8. but this time wait for the burning to start then drink one of the liquids
9. then start the timer
10. repeat the instructions again

Results:

It was very painful for my tongue but I really enjoyed this experiment. It was the most painful experiment by far that I have done in science.

The time it took to stop the burning
Just Chili: 50 secs Water: 12 secs Coke: 11 secs Milk: 7 secs

Conclusion :
I found out that milk is the best to stop the burning

Discussion :
Why does chili burn your mouth and why does milk stop it?
Chili burns your mouth because the capsaicin is released into your saliva and then binds on to receptors in your mouth and tongue and the milk stops it because many milk products contain casein, and casein stops the spice.

 Ginger Beer

This week our aim is how to make ginger beer.

Research:

It takes three days to 2 weeks for the ginger beer to fizz.

Method

Equipment:
  1. Ginger
  2. 180ml of Hot water
  3. lemon juice
  4. sugar
  5. yeast
  6. cup or jar

Instructions:

  1. Get your equipment
  2. Fold your paper into a funnel
  3. Put a teaspoon of yeast onto the paper funnel
  4. put 2 teaspoons of sugar
  5. Pour lukewarm water into your cup, 180 ml
  6. Stir slightly
  7. put a few squirts of lemon juice
  8. Stir is a bit more using a wooden stick
  9. Put the ginger onto the paper and pour half in
  10. Taste it ( Add more ginger if you want )
  11. Add a tablespoon of sugar
  12. Taste it again ( Add more of what you think it needs more of )
  13. Leave it for a day before trying it

Results:

It didn't taste good and it looked weird. It smelt a lot like ginger, which I was hoping for, but it was too strong of a smell. The taste was just too strong for me to handle but I think that it was just because I added all the ginger I was given. It did have a kind of sweet taste but it didn't really help it.
